A new window or tab will open and you will be asked to type in your username. It is best if that name is the same as the one you use on the NaNoWriMo web site, so that people know who you are. Then click on "Connect" and away you go!
This new chat interface is an actual IRC channel; if you would prefer to connect to the chat using your own IRC client (e.g., mIRC, Ice Chat), direct your client to irc.mibbit.com and /join #asianano.
Register your username!
Registering your username is easy and will ensure that nobody else can pretend to be you. Here is how you do that:
- Log into the chat.
- Type " /msg nickserv register your_password email@address.com " but leave off the quotes and change "your_password" to whatever you want your password to be and change "email@address.com" to your e-mail address. Nobody but you and the chat server will see this information; it is invisible to everyone else in the chat room!
- You will get an e-mail from the folks over at Mibbit with your confirmation code in it. They will give you the exact line to type in the chat room in that e-mail.
- Congratulations, you have registered your username! Now when you log into the chat, you will be asked to "identify" your username. This just means you are telling the server that you are who you say you are. It's pretty easy to do because the server will give you the exact line to type in - just remember to change the password to your actual password.
